When playing through Sebastian’s “Repentance” quest, you will be able to find his grandfather’s bow. You will find it in the Harimman estate by looting the body of a Flint Company Mercenary in the basement. Return to the Chantry to give this to Sebastian for a relationship boost.
These are generally found on defeated enemies or bought from specific vendors. When you find the armor, it will be automatically equipped on the companion.
Gifts still influence friendship and rivalry, but the number contact me of gifts in the game has been significantly reduced from Dragon Age: Origins. Companions react differently to gifts depending on their friendship/rivalry score.
